CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior All-America Ryan Hill grabbed his fifth career individual title on Saturday by winning the men’s 1,500-meter race at Virginia’s Lannigan Track on the final day of the ACC Outdoor Championships.
It’s the third consecutive year that the Hickory, N.C., native has won an individual outdoor title at the conference meet. In his first two seasons, Hill took back-to-back titles in the 10,000 meters. This is his first title in the 1,500 meters.
Hill’s five individual titles are the sixth most in school history, behind Danny Peebles (9), Bob Medlin and Mike Patton (7), Kevin Braunskill and Gus Young (6). Four others also have won five individual titles.
Hill has also twice anchored the Wolfpack’s ACC-champion distance medley relay teams and won the 2011 ACC cross country title, giving him a combined total of eight league championships in his three years with the Pack.
The Wolfpack also earned All-ACC honors in the men’s and women’s discus on Saturday, as senior Brittany Hampton of Monroe, N.C., took third in the women’s event and sophomore Nathaniel Williams of Newport, N.C., was second in the men’s. It was the first All-ACC honors for both.
