Mercer Posts Career-Best Time in Mile

RALEIGH, N.C. - Members of the NC State men's and women's track teams participated in the opening round of a pair of two-day indoor meets on Friday, and junior Erin Mercer posted the best time of her career in the indoor mile run.
Mercer of Peninsula, Ohio, ran a personal-best 4:48.88 in the mile at the Boston University Valentine Invitational in Boston to finish 12th in the event.
Sophomore All-American Kenyetta Iyevbele of Charlotte, N.C., and senior Tiayonna Blackmon of Rock Hill, S.C., finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in the 800-meter run, while freshman Deanna Foshee of Cary was 23rd among the 151 entries at the large indoor meet.
Redshirt freshman Laura Hoer of Arden, N.C., was 11th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:39.58, while freshman teammate Joanna Thompson was 12th at 9:39.85.
Several members of NC State's men team will compete in the event on Saturday.
In Fayetteville, Ark., Wolfpack junior Paige Eley of Greensboro had a career-best 7.70 seconds in the women's 60-meter dash, while junior Kwame Boatwright of Durham had his best long jump of the season at 21-feet, 9-inches to finish 16th in the event. Freshman teammate Carl Marant of Raleigh was 17th at 21-feet, 7.75-inches.
In the shot put, redshirt freshman Jule Rich of Cumberland, Va., was eighth in the men's event, while senior Lawanda Henry of Dunn, N.C., was ninth in the women's.
The Wolfpack will finish both events on Saturday, while other members of the team compete in the JDL Fast Track Collegiate Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Junior Ryan Hill of Hickory, N.C., and senior Bobby Moldovan of Fort Wayne, Ind., will both run in the 3,000 meters at the Flotrack Husky Classic in Seattle, as Hill looks to improve on his school-record time of 7:50.78 in the event, which he set last year at this same event.
