Pack Sweeps Doubleheader against UNCG

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State (15-12) softball swept a doubleheader against UNCG (11-14) today at Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium. The Pack took the first game by a score of 8-5 and won the second 9-0 in five innings.
Kayla Cox earned the victory for the Wolfpack in the circle, throwing four innings of one-hit ball, striking out four in the process.
Alyssa Allbritten paced the Pack offensively, going 2-for-3 with three RBI in the second game. Toni Ann Williford went 2-for-3 and Landon Warren posted a 2-for-2 outing at the plate.
Williford led off the game with a base hit and was moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Warren. Two batters later, Bridget Desbois laced a double, plating Williford to give the Pack a 1-0 lead.
The Wolfpack notched four-straight two-out base hits in the second inning, scoring three runs to take a 4-0 lead over the Spartans.
NC State knocked four hits in the bottom of the third inning, capped by Allbritten's third homerun of the season, to take a 9-0 lead.
NC State defeated UNCG in the first game of the doubleheader by a score of 8-5.
Alyssa Ishibashi reached base on an error to lead off the third inning, then came around to score when Allbritten reached base on another UNCG miscue. Bethaney Wells then stepped to the plate and roped a double in the gap to plate Allbritten and give NC State a 2-0 lead over the Spartans.
UNCG got on the board in top of the fourth, capitalizing on three Wolfpack errors to push across three runs and take a 3-2 lead.
The Pack answered in the bottom half of the fourth when Alicia Abbott started the inning with a base hit and came around to score on a UNCG error to knot the score at three-all.
Heather Robb knocked a two-run homerun in the fifth inning to give the Spartans a 5-3 lead.
NC State posted a run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 5-4 when Desbois drew a walk to lead off the inning and came around to score on a passed ball.
The Spartans loaded the bases in the sixth inning, but Wolfpack reliever Jade Hennig was able to get Robb to ground out to end the frame with the score remaining 5-4.
The Pack offense came to life in the bottom of the fourth inning, posting four runs on four singles to take an 8-5 lead.
NC State returns to action Saturday, March 26 in Atlanta, Ga. to play a three-game ACC series with Georgia Tech. Play begins at 1 p.m., and coverage with be available on Gametracker.
