ELON, N.C. - NC State softball (12-10) took two games in a doubleheader at Elon (13-7) today, winning the second game by a score of 13-1 in five innings at East Field in Elon, N.C.
Alyssa Allbritten went 3-for-4 in the game and Bethaney Wells notched six RBI in the doubleheader offensively for the Pack, which had an impressive day at the plate.
The Pack notched a run in the top of the first inning when Alyssa Ishibashi led off her second game in a row by being hit by a pitch. She moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Toni Ann Williford and scored on an RBI single by Allbritten to give NC State a 1-0 lead.
Tomeka Watson tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning by knocking her second homerun of the 2011 season.
NC State pulled back on top in the fourth inning, posting six runs off of Elon starting pitcher Erin O'Shea. After O'Shea issued back-to-back walks to begin the frame, Breanna Andrews laced an RBI single. Later, Allbritten notched her third base hit of the inning, which plated Andrews. The next batter, Bridget Desbois, sent the first pitch of her at-bat deep over the outfield wall for her first homerun of the 2011 campaign, a three-run shot.
The Wolfpack pushed across six more runs in the fifth inning to extend its lead to 13-1. Following three walks issued by Elon reliever Pam DelPizzo, Wells stepped to the plate and smashed her third homerun of the season, which brought her RBI total up to six for the doubleheader.
Kayla Cox earned the start for NC State, throwing all five innings, giving up one run on one hit and striking out 13 in the win.
In the first game of the doubleheader, NC State took a 4-2 victory over Elon on East Field in Elon, N.C.

The Pack offense started early in the game, pushing two runs across in the top of the first inning. To lead off the game, Ishibashi was hit by a pitch, which put her first in NC State history in times hit by a pitch for a career. A few batters later, Wells stepped to the plate and notched a base hit, scoring Ishibashi and Allbritten for a 2-0 NC State lead.
A solo homerun by Wells off of Elon starter Lauren Taylor extended the NC State lead to 3-0 in the third inning.
The Phoenix got on the board in the third inning when Carleigh Nester ripped a double to left field, scoring Caitlin McGowan.
Chelsea Tate knocked a double in the fourth inning, and later came around to score after a bases loaded walk to give NC State a 4-1 lead.
Starting pitcher Morgan Peeler threw four innings for the Pack, giving up one run on five hits while striking out three Elon batters. She was relieved in the fifth inning by junior Jade Hennig, who pitched the remaining three innings for NC State.
