Wolfpack Earns Two More Wins on Day Two of Marucci Classic

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State softball team swept day two of the Marucci Classic by defeating Central Michigan, 6-5, before taking down Northern Colorado, 11-1, in five innings.
The Pack moves to 9-5 on the season, 3-0 when playing at home.

How it Happened
- The Chippewas added two to the board in the top of the first after two walks allowed runners to score.
- Sophomore Tori Ensley leadoff the bottom of the second with a double to center field. With two outs on the board, junior Hannah Church worked a 3-1 count before being thrown ball four, allowing her to occupy first.
- Freshman Kendall Simmers came in clutch with two outs and two on as she singled to left to drive home Tori Ensley to get the Pack on the board.
- Redshirt-sophomore pitcher Wynne Gore picked up her first strikeout of the outing to end the top of the first and record her first three-up-three-down frame of the meeting.
- Junior Ellington Whitaker went yard in the bottom of the fourth as she hit her first career home run to add two to the board and push the Pack in front, 3-2.
- With two outs on the board, junior Ellie Goins hit a double down the left line to bring home Michele Tarpey to push the Pack ahead, 4-2. Goins would then be tagged out at second to end the inning.
- Central Michigan posted three in the top of the fifth to take the lead, 5-4.
- The Wolfpack responded in the bottom of the frame after junior Hannah Church smashed her third homer of the season to record two RBI's and push the Pack ahead, 6-5.
- Wynne Gore pitched the longest for the Wolfpack as she threw 4.2 innings. She finished the outing with four strikeouts.
- Rylee Wyman earned the win in the circle after pitching two innings and finishing with two strikeouts.
How it Happened
- The Bears struck first in the opening frame after a double steal allowed one to score.
- The Pack responded in the bottom of the first after a wild pitch allowed one to score and tie it up.
- The Wolfpack had hot bats the rest of the outing, posting two runs in the second, five in the third and three in the fourth.
- Junior Ellie Goins hit an RBI triple to give NC State the lead in the bottom of the second and Tori Ensley followed it up with a single up the middle to bring Goins home.
- Hannah Church hit her fourth homer of the season in the bottom of the third to push the lead to four.
- Goins recorded a sacrifice fly to bring one home and Tori Ensley followed it up with a double to bring home two. NC State finished the third inning on top, 8-1.
- In the bottom of the fourth, freshman Kendall Simmers recorded her second hit of the outing in the fourth when she singled up the middle.
- Fellow freshman Taryn Massey entered to pinch hit in the bottom of fourth and recorded her first collegiate hit, a two RBI double.
- The Wolfpack tallied 12 hits in four innings of work.
- Carly Maxton pitched all five innings for the Pack and tied her career high 10 strikeouts. She finished the outing with only one walk. She moves to 3-1 on the season.
