Wyman Shutouts Out Illinois in Softball’s Fifth Straight Win

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State softball team went undefeated on the weekend as the Pack took down Illinois, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at Dail Softball Stadium. Junior pitcher Rylee Wyman paced the Pack as she picked up her fourth career shutout in the win.
The win marks the 40th under head coach Lindsay Leftwich and the Wolfpack moves to 10-5 on the season.

The Pack will return to Dail Softball Stadium on Wednesday, Feb. 26. NC State will host Campbell for a double header starting at 4pm on ACCNX.

How it Happened
- Junior right handed pitcher Rylee Wyman opened the outing by catching three consecutive batters swinging.
- With two outs on the board, junior MaKayla Marbury hit a single up the middle to get the party started. Fellow junior Hannah Church followed it up with a walk to get two on with two outs. Freshman Kendall Simmers came in clutch with an RBI double to bring Marbury home and get the Pack on the board.
- NC State led, 1-0, through the opening frame.
- To open the bottom of the third, senior Taylor Ensley hit a first pitch bomb to center field to push the Pack ahead, 2-0. The homer was her fifth of the year.
- The Fighting Illini picked up an error in the bottom of the third but held the Pack to just two runs through three innings of work.
- In the top of the sixth, Illinois recorded its lone hit of the outing but could not get into scoring position.
- Wyman pitched the complete game and tallied seven strikeouts. The win marks her fourth in the circle this season.
- Taylor Ensley led the Pack with two hits in three at bats with three RBI's.
The Pack will return to Dail Softball Stadium on Wednesday, Feb. 26. NC State will host Campbell for a double header starting at 4pm on ACCNX.
