Pack Drops Meeting with Gophers, 2-0

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The NC State softball team dropped the final game of the Joan Joyce Classic hosted by Florida Atlantic to Minnesota after the Gophers scored two in the sixth inning.
The Pack moves to 5-5 on the season.

The Pack will return to Raleigh before heading to Elon to take on the Phoenix on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 5pm.

How it Happened
- The Pack opened the game by turning a double play to pick up the first two outs. The Gophers recorded their first hit of the outing with a single to center.
- With two outs on the board, freshman Kendall Simmers singled and junior Hannah Church followed it up with a single of her own.
- Tori Ensley led off the bottom of the third with a single to left field and Taylor Ensley hit a sacrifice bunt to advance her younger sister to second.
- Simmers hit a single in her second at bat of the morning and Tori Ensley escaped a run down situation, getting to third safely as Simmers advanced to second.
- The Pack left two stranded in the bottom of the third after a bunt attempt by Church went right to the first baseman.
- After five scoreless frames, the Gophers were the first to get on the board in the top of the sixth after a single to left field.
- With two outs in the bottom half of the sixth, junior MaKayla Marbury hit a triple and attempted to make it an in-the-park homer, but was tagged out at home.
- Freshman Lisey St. Jean recorded her first collegiate hit in the bottom of the seventh after sher singled to the catcher but her opportunity to score was cut short after the Gophers picked up the final out.
- Junior right handed pitcher Wynne Gore pitched 5.2 innings and tied her career high three strikeouts in the outing. Fellow junior Madison Inscoe entered to pitch the final 1.1 innings for the Pack.
- Gore moves to 1-1 on the season in the circle.
