SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS
Cal (7-1-1) will play its first-ever Atlantic Coast Conference match on Thursday night in Raleigh. The Golden Bears have notched a 6-0-1 record following a 2-1 road defeat at No. 22 Santa Clara on Aug. 18. During that stretch, the Bears have outscored their opponents 21-7, scoring multiple goals five times in their past seven games. Senior Karlie Lema leads the Bears with 11 goals, four assists and 26 points. Lema has scored 11 of Cal's 24 goals on the season. Defensively, California goalkeeper Teagan Wy was named to the 2024 Preseason Women's Soccer All-ACC Team. Wy has represented Team USA at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup over the past few weeks and will face North Korea in a semifinal matchup on Wednesday evening.
SCOUTING THE CARDINAL
Stanford (8-0-0) enters its first week of ACC competition with an undefeated record, outscoring opponents 14-2 so far this season. The Cardinal has shut out six of its eight opponents and has limited opponents to fewer than seven shots per game. Redshirt junior forward Andrea Kitahata leads Stanford with five goals and 13 points. She is also tied with freshman midfielder Charlotte Kohler for the team lead in assists with three. Stanford, the 2023 NCAA runner-up, was predicted second in the ACC only behind reigning national champion Florida State. TIP OF THE HAT
Sophomore forward Jade Bordeleau netted her first-career hat trick in Sunday's 4-0 win over George Washington. Bordeleau needed less than 10 minutes of game action to score all three of her goals in the standout performance, logging goals in the 39th, 46th and 48th minutes to give NC State a commanding 3-0 lead. The sophomore's hat trick marked NC State's first hat trick since Tziarra King recorded one five years ago to the day on Sept. 15, 2019, against Furman. The Wolfpack won that match 3-1 over the visiting Paladins.
GOALS GALORE
After a slow start in its first three matches, the NC State offense erupted for eight goals between back-to-back victories over VCU and Charlotte. The last time NC State scored three or more goals in back-to-back matches was on Oct. 24 and Oct. 27, 2019, when the Wolfpack notched a 3-2 win over Syracuse and a 3-0 win over Notre Dame.
