Pack Falls to Hoos in Bottom of the Seventh

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The NC State softball fell to Virginia, 3-2, in the bottom of the seventh Sunday afternoon at Palmer Park in the final game of the series.
How it Happened
The Pack will return to Raleigh to finish out the season with a nine game homestead starting on Saturday, April 20 against Presbyterian. The double header will begin at 2pm and game two will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

- With two outs in the top of the second, sophomore Bailey Edwards recorded her first hit of the season as she slapped a double to left field. The opportunity to score was cut short after Virginia grabbed the final out.
- MaKayla Marbury led off the third inning with a walk. Junior Taylor Ensley then worked a 1-2 count before recording an RBI triple that put the Pack on the board, 1-0. Sophomore Madison Inscoe stepped up to the plate with Ensley on third and recorded a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to two. With two outs, Hannah Goodwin singled to left field to extend the frame for the Wolfpack, but the Hoos grabbed the final out before the Pack could increase the lead.
- Sophomore right handed pitcher Rylee Wyman tallied five strikeouts through first five frames.
- After posting a zero on the board the first four innings, Virginia scored its first run in the bottom of the fifth after a solo home run to left field.
- The Hoos loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh. A sacrifice fly allowed a runner to score to end the game with Virginia on top 3-2.
- Wyman pitched the entire seven innings and finished with five strikeouts.
- Ensley led the Pack with two hits and added an RBI to the stat sheet.
- The loss moves the Pack to 23-20 on the season and 3-15 in conference play.
