
NC State Takes Down Louisville 4-0 In Weekend Sweep!

LOUISVILLE, KY- No. 23 NC State men's tennis had a successful weekend of ACC play as they took down Louisville Sunday afternoon 4-0 in Louisville, KY.
Statement from head coach Kyle Spencer: " Great job by the boys today, they really cam out with a strong performance against a very good Louisville team. I'm really impressed with everyone's determination and effort in singles play in such tough conditions outside. It's always a challenge to play in the ACC on the road, and our team was up for a fight."
The Pack headed into Sunday's match coming off of a 4-0 victory over Notre Dame Friday, Mar. 22 in South-Bend. The Wolfpack are currently on a four match win streak taking, and have sweeped four out of the six ACC opponents they have taken on so far this season.
The Cardinals took to the court playing an aggressive defense in doubles play, challenging the Wolfpack to fight for every game. On court three No. 36 doubles duo Martin Borisiouk and Joe Wayand lead the Pack in doubles play. After dropping two games, the pair separated themselves from Mayew, and Fung (UL) in a 6-2 win on court two.
Courts one, and five played a close match throughout doubles play. Braden Shick and Fons Van Sambeek maintained a lead on court five bringing the match to a 5-4 giving the pack a glimpse of hope to clinch the doubles point. Pena, and Miguel of Louisville came back, picking up the next game to tie up 5-5. However, Shick and Van Sambeek were able to shake off the nerves, and come through in a 5-7 match to clinch the doubles point.
Getting a feel of the competition, the Pack came out hot in the first set of singles play. Courts one, three, and four all took the first three games in the first set forcing the Cardinals to scramble to close the gap.
On court six Miguel Avendano (UL) put up a tense battle in the first set of singles play against Junior Joe Wayand. After Dropping four games, Wayand pushed through with a major comeback to take the first set 6-4. After getting into the swing of things, Wayand dominated the court in a 6-1 second set to put the first point on the board for the Pack in singles play.
Fons Van Sambeek took the first four games in the first set of singles play. No. 91 Will Mayew (UL) put pressure on Van Sambeek taking the next three games to thin out Van Sambeek's lead. Breaking away, Sambeek took the next three games to take the first set in singles play. Van Sambeek, finding his rhythm, battled it out in the second set coming out on top 6-3, 6-3 to put the third point on the board for the evening.
Jakub Katuch made another appearance in the doubles rotations at the number five spot against the Cardinals. Katuch made his college debut Friday night against Notre Dame. Katuch started off strong taking an early lead in the first set 6-2. Only giving up two games in the second set, Katuch's match was abandoned.
On court one senior No. 46 Robin Catry played a tight match against No. 45 Etienne Donnet. After a neck and neck 6-6 first set, Carty took the lead in a 7-5 tiebreaker in the first set. The pair continued to battle it out in the second set. Until their match was abandoned with a win on courts six, four and three.
With wins on courts six and four there the match clinching point was in sight. No. 103 Luca Staeheli played a steady match against opponent Andre' Steinbach (UL). Steinback, keeping Staehli on his toes, took three games in both sets, but struggled to keep up with Staeheli's tempo. In Staeheli fashion the Junior maintained his lead and pushed to clinch the match winning point for the Pack.
