
Pool Records Fall as Wolfpack Splits Dual Meet with Texas

RALEIGH, N.C. -  A total of eight Wolfpack records fell Friday night, seven pool records, and a program record in diving, as the Wolfpack earned a split with Texas, seeing the men winning 130-92 and the women falling 68-130.

In the 100 backstroke, Katharine Berkoff swam a 49.82 setting a new pool record. Her swim gave her the second-fastest time in a dual meet ever, only behind fellow ACC swimmer Gretchen Walsh.

The No. 3 Wolfpack men started the night with a pool record in the 200 YD Medley Relay with a time of 1:23.04. Aiden Hayes led off in 20.80, followed by Sam Hoover (23.56), Luke Miller (20.07), and Quintin McCarty (18.61). The four were just off their 1:22.87 mid-season time, which ranks third in the nation.

Daniel Diehl made his home debut for the Wolfpack after joining mid-season and making his college debut last week at Virginia. He broke an NC State pool record with a 1:43.11 win in the 200 IM.
The Wolfpack men were behind early but were able to pull closer with a 1-2 finish in the 200 free relay. Noah Henderson led off in 19.35, McCarty had an 18.68 split, then Drew Salls (19.01) and Jerry Fox (19.19) brought it home. Their time of 1:16.23 isn't far off their season-best of 1:16.00, which ranks fourth in the nation. The Wolfpack 'B' team touched for second.
In the Men's 500, The Wolfpack finished first and third as Ross Dant touched the wall first, winning in 4:16.21, and James Plage followed at 4:16.59 for third place.

Another pool record was set in the Men's 400 relay; the Wolfpack men clocked a season-best time that moved them up to fifth in the nation this season. McCarty led off with a 42.16. Fox followed with a 42.44 split, then Miller (41.87) and Hoover (41.77) closed with a pair of sub-42 splits as the Wolfpack won with a time of 2:48.24. It was also a second-place finish for the NC State 'B' team, beating the Texas 'A' Team from 2:51.66 to 2:52.48.Â

With the victory already in hand, The Wolfpack distance dominated with a 1-2 finish in the men's 1650. Lance Norris hit a new lifetime best by over six seconds to take the win and set a pool record in the process. His time of 14:48.34 will send him to NCAAs. Teammate Kyle Ponsler finished behind him in second place, with a personal best of 15:05.69.

Diving
Helene Synnott posted a 305.93 in the Women's 1m dive for a second-place finish. On the men's side, Renato Calderaro finished third in the 3m, scoring 409.73 to set a program record. It was also a third-place finish for Bayne Bennett in the men's 1m with a 379.35.
