RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State women's soccer travels to Charlotte for an in-state matchup on Sunday night. The Pack's road opener against the 49ers is set for 7 p.m. at Transamerica Field and will stream live on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wolfpack recorded a 1-1 draw against Utah in its 2023 season opener. Jade Bordeleau netted her first-career goal to give the Pack a 1-0 lead early in the second half. Utah drew level in the 73rd minute on a long-range strike. NC State came close to earning the victory on a corner kick in the 80th minute when Brianna Weber's header forced an initial save and Fernanda Soto's rebound drifted just wide of the goal.
MAKING DEBUTS
Four members of the Pack made their NC State debuts on Thursday night, including Mackenzie Smith and Jade Bordeleau making their first-career starts. Alex Mohr and Mary Frances Symmes also logged their first-career appearances. Bordeleau netted the first goal of her career in NC State's season opener, finishing with her right foot from close range.

NC State and Charlotte will square off for the seventh time in NC State's 2023 road opener. A few notes tracking the Pack's matchup at Charlotte are listed below:
• Sunday will mark the first meeting between the two teams since Aug. 29, 2010, in Raleigh. Charlotte notched a 2-1 victory in overtime.
• Charlotte holds a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series history. The 49ers won the first two matchups in the series in 1998 and 1999, respectively. Charlotte has won the two most recent meetings, too, in 2009 and 2010.
• NC State won in back-to-back seasons in 2000 and 2001, defeating Charlotte 3-0 at home in 2000 before notching a 1-0 road victory in 2001.
STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE
NC State's sustained success has garnered national attention as the Wolfpack ranked No. 15 in SoccerWire's 2023 list of Top 50 Current NCAA Women's Soccer Programs. The rankings were based on a combination of final United Soccer Coaches Polls and Rating Percentage Index (RPI) from each season, with bonuses awarded for NCAA Tournament qualification and College Cup victories.
SCOUTING THE 49ERS
Charlotte (0-1-0) opened its 2023 season with a 3-2 defeat at James Madison. All five goals in Thursday's setback came in the second half, as the 49ers evened the score at 1-1 in the 53rd minute before James Madison pulled away with tallies in the 55th and 65th minutes. In Charlotte's first season in the American Athletic Conference, the 49ers placed three players on the American Athletic Conference Watch List. Macey Bader, Payton Patrick and Julia Patrum each earned the preseason honors, while the 49ers were selected fifth in the American's East Division.
JOSEPH NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-ACC TEAM
Jameese Joseph was named to the 2023 Women's Soccer Preseason All-ACC Team on Aug. 10. Joseph, an All-ACC honoree in back-to-back seasons, scored a team-high eight goals and recorded two assists for a team-best 18 points in 2022. Joseph was also included in TopDrawerSoccer's Preseason Top 100 Player List, checking in at No. 57.
2023 FALL ROSTER
The 2023 roster is comprised of 27 players, which features 18 returners and nine newcomers. Eight of NC State's nine newcomers are freshmen, while the sole transfer added to this year's squad is North Carolina native and former Louisville goalkeeper Olivia Pratapas.
