RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women's soccer team recorded a 1-1 draw against Utah in its 2023 season opener on Thursday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.
After a scoreless opening half, NC State grabbed early momentum out of the break with three shots within the first 90 seconds of the second half. Jameese Joseph fired back-to-back attempts in the opening minute of the second half before freshman Jade Bordeleau notched her first-career goal to give NC State a 1-0 lead.
Bordeleau buried her right-footed shot past the diving effort of Utah goalkeeper Kasey Wardle in the 47th minute, finishing off a cross from Leyah Hall-Robinson for the Wolfpack's first goal of the season. Hall-Robinson notched her first assist of the season after leading NC State with five assists this past season.
Utah's Bella Woods knotted the score at 1-1 with a long-range strike in the 73rd minute. After Woods' equalizer, NC State registered two shots off a corner kick. Brianna Weber's header forced a save from Wardle, while Fernanda Soto's rebound effort missed just wide of the Utes' goal.
