Wolfpack Concludes Homestand Against North Carolina A&T

RALEIGH – The NC State baseball team concludes its homestand on Tuesday afternoon against North Carolina A&T. Tuesday's first pitch has been moved up four hours to 2 p.m.
Tuesday's game will still be broadcasted live on ACC Network Extra. A free audio stream will be available on the Varsity Network App with Tony Haynes on the call. The game will also be available on WKNC 88.1
NC State (28-14) is 24-0 all-time against North Carolina A&T (17-23).

THE MATCHUP: SERIES AGAINST NC A&T
NC State enters this week's matchup against the Aggies with a 24-0 record against North Carolina A&T. More notes from the series against A&T are listed below:
• While the Pack is undefeated in 24 prior matchups against the Aggies, three of the past five games have been decided by two runs or fewer. NC State posted two-run victories in 2022 and 2018 and earned a one-run victory (8-7) over A&T in its final game of the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season.
• NC State jumped out to a 5-0 lead in its 5-3 victory over the Aggies on March 22, 2022. LuJames Groover III and Josh Hood hit homers in the midweek win. Garrett Payne and Canaan Silver combined to pitch all nine innings, allowing just six hits in the two-run victory.
LAST TIME ON THE DIAMOND
NC State finished off a 3-0 week at The Doak with a 12-3 victory over The Citadel on Saturday. The Pack slugged three home runs in the win, jumping ahead 5-0 in the bottom of the second behind a bases-clearing double from Noah Soles and a two-run homer from LuJames Groover III. NC State scored nine of its 12 runs in the game with two outs, including all five of its runs in the second inning. Sam Highfill (4-1) earned the win after allowing just one run over four innings of relief.
STRONG MARK IN THE RPI
After the Pack's 5-4 win over East Carolina on Tuesday and the two-game sweep over The Citadel, NC State ranks No. 24 in Monday's RPI poll. The Pack is 21-1 in games against teams ranked above No. 50 in Thursday's RPI poll. NC State ranks 20th nationally in overall strength of schedule. The Pack will face off against NC A&T (No. 210) on Tuesday before playing three road matchups at Notre Dame (No. 41).
PUTTING UP CROOKED NUMBERS
NC State's offense has scored runs in bunches this season, posting 88 multi-run innings through just 42 games (2.20 per game). NC State's single-game high for runs scored in one inning was 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth against Davidson on April 18. NC State's single-game high for the number of multi-run innings is five, scoring multiple runs in a game five times in three different matchups.
STRIKE FIRST, STRIKE HARD, NO MERCY
NC State holds a 20-1 record when scoring first this season. The Pack has scored in the first inning 16 times and has scored in either the first or second inning 22 times in 2023.

North Carolina A&T (17-23, 9-13 CAA) dropped all four of its games last week following a home sweep of William & Mary from April 21-23 in Greensboro. The Aggies have averaged just 1.75 runs per game during its current four-game skid. Offensively, Tre Williams leads the Aggies in total bases (61), slugging percentage (.508), RBI (23) and home runs (four). On the mound, NC A&T has posted a staff ERA of 6.16, striking out a total of 315 opposing batters while issuing 166 walks on the season.
RECORD AGAINST IN-STATE OPPONENTS
The Wolfpack finished with a 13-9 record against in-state opponents in 2022, including a 9-2 record against in-state nonconference opponents. NC State is 6-4 against in-state opponents this season, completing season sweeps of UNCG and UNCW. The Pack's only nonconference losses came to in-state opponents Elon (March 14) and No. 12 East Carolina (April 4). NC State recorded a 22-7 win over Davidson on April 18 before notching a 5-4 victory over No. 12 ECU on Tuesday at The Doak.
