Pack Falls In Game One at Syracuse

Orange out hit the Pack 7-5
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The NC State softball team fell to Syracuse, 4-2, in game one of the series Thursday evening in New York.
Both teams got off to a slow start, but Syracuse took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Pack got runners in scoring position on several occasions, but Syracuse picked up the third out to stop them from scoring.
Syracuse scored its second run in the bottom of the fourth after Angie Ramos doubled, allowing Laila Alves to score.
Freshman Amanda Hasler was walked in three consecutive plate appearances, every time with two outs on the board.
MaKayla Marbury picked up the Pack's first hit of the evening in the top of the second when she hit an infield single. In the same inning, Taylor Ensley singled to center field but was later caught stealing. Sophomore Hannah Goodwin also recorded a hit after she singled to left field in the top of the third.
Syracuse scored two in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-0 after a sacrifice bunt and a single brought people across home plate.
To start the seventh inning, Ellie Goins was walked and Rebecca Murray singled up the middle to get two on base, later advancing on a wild pitch. Goodwin recorded a sacrifice fly to get Goins home and get the Pack on the board. After a groundout, Katlyn Pavlick singled to left with two outs and brought Murray home to minimize the Orange's lead to two.
In the circle, freshman Madison Inscoe pitched four innings and picked up one strikeout. Fellow freshman Rylee Wyman entered the circle in the bottom of the fifth and pitched the final three innings for the Wolfpack.
NC State advances to 13-25 overall, 4-9 in ACC play.

The Pack will return to Skytop Stadium to take on the Orange for game two of the series on Friday. The game will be streamed on ACCNX and first pitch is set for 3pm.
