After a 69-minute lightning delay halted play, the Bulldogs got on the board in the top of the fourth inning. The Citadel knotted the score at 1-1 after a leadoff home run from Noah Mitchell and later moved ahead 2-1 on an RBI groundout.
Â
After the Wolfpack tallied four runs in the home half of the fourth, Lawson took over the duties on the mound for NC State in the top of the fifth with starting pitcher Logan Whitaker's day complete having struck out four Bulldog batters over four innings of work.
Â
The Pack scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning, moving ahead 6-2 on a full-count hit-by-pitch drawn by Cannon Peebles. Eli Serrano III later scored on a balk from The Citadel's Fisher Paulson to stretch the Pack's lead to 7-2.
