
Pack Drops Day One at Louisville

LOUISVILLE – The NC State softball program dropped both games on day one against Louisville (21-9, 6-2) Saturday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium.
The Pack (11-19, 4-7) took an early lead in game one, but were unable to stop the Cardinals throughout the evening.
NC State 4, Louisville 7
Graduate Rebecca Murray started the Pack off by reaching first on an error by the Cardinals shortstop. With one two outs, MaKayla Marbury stepped into the box and was hit by the first pitch thrown her way. Sophomore Hannah Goodwin took the box and singled to left field, allowing Murray to get home from second. The Wolfpack took a one run lead to end the top half of the first inning.
The Cardinals took the lead as the fourth batter to face pitcher Madison Inscoe homered to center field. The hit brought in three RBI's to give them a two run advantage over the Pack. NC State ended the Cardinals scoring efforts after getting the next two batters out.
Senior Libby Whittaker recorded her third consecutive game with at least one hit when she doubled to center field to start the Wolfpack off in the top of the second. After back-to-back strikeouts, Murray took the box for the second time and singled up the middle, allowing Whittaker to advance to third. Louisville caught the pop up from Katlyn Pavlick, stopping the Pack from minimizing their lead. The Wolfpack recorded a three up, three down situation to end the second inning.
Freshman Amanda Hasler wasted no time minimizing the Cardinals lead in the third, as she swung at the first pitch and hit a bomb over the center field wall. The hit Goodwin recorded her first double of the season after hitting it down the left line with two outs. Whittaker stepped into the box and reached first on an error, bringing Goodwin home to tie the game three all. Sophomore Kaylee Lambrecht then singled to left, allowing Whittaker to take second. The Cardinals struck out the next Pack batter to end the top of the third.
After retiring seven straight Cardinals, Inscoe faced Hannah File. File hit a ball over the right field wall to give Louisville the 4-3 lead. The Pack got two of the next three Cardinals out, ending the third inning.
Both teams remained scoreless through the top of the fifth. The Cardinals added one run in the bottom of the fifth to increase the lead back to two after a single to left field by Taylor Roby. They added two more runs after another single went up the middle.
Murray and Pavlick were walked to open the top of the sixth inning. Hasler took the box for the third time and singled to left to bring Murray home and minimize the Cards lead back to three.The Pack was unable to score after Louisville struck out the next three batters.
Freshman Rylee Wymann entered the circle in the bottom of the sixth to close out the game for the Pack and struckout one. Inscoe finished game one of the series pitching five innings, recording one strikeout and only two batters walked.

The Pack struggled to gain momentum in game two. The Cardinals scored in each of the five innings, forcing NC State to bring in two pitching changes throughout the evening.
The Wolfpack recorded one hit on the evening and reached base on an error.
Louisville totaled five runs in the fourth inning to increase the lead to 13.
