RALEIGH – The NC State softball team finished the weekend off on a high note after defeating Purdue, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at Dail Stadium.
Graduate Rebecca Murray decided to take a swing at the fourth pitch thrown her way. She slammed a ball past the center field wall to record her first homer of the season and in a Wolfpack jersey. She gave the Pack a 1-0 advantage to start the game.
Fellow graduate Katlyn Pavlick singled up the middle to get on base, but got out on a double play shortly after. The Pack finished the top of the first with two hits and one run.

The two teams battled back and forth through the fifth. Purdue had Kyndall Bailey cross home plate in the bottom of the fifth to tie it one all.
In the top of the sixth and one out, Inscoe stepped up to the plate. She drilled a ball out of left field on the second pitch thrown her way and gave the Wolfpack a 2-1 advantage.
After Hannah Goodwin and Kaylee Lambrecht were walked, Gracie Roberts entered to pinch run for Goodwin. With one out, two on base, and a 2-1 count, Taylor Ensley recorded a single up the left line. She advanced to second on a throw and Roberts scored making it a 3-1 game.
Freshman catcher Amanda Hasler then recorded a sac fly, allowing Lambrecht to cross home and the Pack to lead 4-1 in the top of the sixth.
The Boilermakers entered the bottom of the sixth trailing by three runs. After getting bases loaded with no outs, Kiersen George popped it up to Marbury to record the first out. The next two batters popped up to Lambrecht at second base and the inning was retired.
The first two batters up to the plate for Purdue in the bottom of the seventh recorded homers to bring them within one run of the Wolfpack. The Boilermakers were unable to get past the Wolfpack's defense after recording back-to-back outs and junior Haley Haislip recorded an unassisted out at first base to end the game.
