
Pack Readies for Top-20 Dual Meet Against Auburn

RALEIGH – The NC State gymnastics team returns to action on Friday evening as the Pack is set to take on No. 5 Auburn in a dual meet against the Tigers.
The Wolfpack enter the meet ranked 20th after a season-high score of 196.650 during a tri-meet against conference foes George Washington and Pitt last Saturday.
NC State has been off to a hot start in its 2023 campaign, posting program records for the highest season-opener score in program history in a dual meet at North Carolina on Jan. 9 (195.525), followed by the highest score in a home opener in program history on Jan. 14 against Michigan State (196.375).
Saturday's 196.650 marked the 14th-highest score in program history, edging the previous score of 196.625 at the 2018 EAGL Championships. The afternoon was highlighted by an all-around score of 39.250 from senior Emily Shepard in addition to a trio of 9.900 scores on vault, bars, and beam from Chloe Negrete. A solid performance from the Pack also a pair of individual event season-highs from Hailey Merchant on bars and Alexis Ortega on beam, with Merchant posting a 9.850 and Ortega registering a 9.800.
Auburn enters Friday night coming off a 197.500-196.675 dual-meet win over No. 23 Arkansas, marking their highest score of the season thus far. The Tigers have additionally competed in a dual meet against No. 2 Florida in addition to beginning their season at the Super 16 Challenge in Las Vegas, Nev., with a quad meet against top-ranked Oklahoma, No. 3 Michigan, and No. 6 UCLA.
Auburn's 2023 squad entered the year after a landmark showing in 2022, finishing in fourth place during the NCAA Tournament and ending their season in the NCAA's Final Four Meet in Fort Worth, Texas.
Friday's contest is set to begin at 8 p.m. (EST), with the meet being broadcast on SEC Network+ through Watch ESPN's streaming platform. The Pack will return home after Friday night's meet on Feb. 4 for a tri-meet against North Carolina and Western Michigan that will serve as NC State's annual pink meet.
