Gymnastics Adds Avery Balser as Assistant Coach

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State gymnastics has named Avery Balser as an assistant coach, head coach Kim Landrus announced Thursday.

"Throughout the interview process, her passion for gymnastics, perspective as a former student-athlete, and commitment to pursuing a career in collegiate coaching consistently stood out. Avery enjoyed an outstanding career at Rutgers and understands the level of dedication and excellence required to compete at the highest level. She will be a valuable addition to our program as we continue building on our success in the ACC and on the national stage. We look forward to welcoming her to Raleigh and beginning preparations for the 2027 season."

My experience as a student-athlete inspired me to pursue coaching, and I'm excited to bring that passion into this role. Balser joins the Wolfpack after a five-year career at Rutgers from 2021-25. Primarily competing on bars while also contributing on vault and floor, she appeared in all 58 meets during her collegiate career and recorded four scores of 9.9 or higher, including two career-best 9.95s. She also posted 41 routines of 9.8 or better.
A team captain during her final season, Balser helped lead the Scarlet Knights to their first NCAA Regional appearance in 11 years, earning a berth to the 2025 NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional. She was also named Rutgers' 2025 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient, an honor recognizing outstanding character, leadership and integrity.
Balser qualified individually for the 2024 NCAA Gainesville Regional, where she tied Rutgers' NCAA Regional program record on bars with a 9.850. She recorded nine scores of 9.850 or better that season and closed the year with 15 consecutive hit routines.
Following her collegiate career, Balser joined Future Gymnastics in Blacklick, Ohio, where she served as Head Coach – Team Development and Team Administrator & Meet Director before beginning her collegiate coaching career.
NC State enters the 2027 season after making its 35th all-time NCAA Championship appearance and advancing to the NCAA Lexington Regional semifinal in 2026.
