RALEIGH – The NC State women's soccer team (6-3-3) opens its three-game road trip at Clemson (5-3-2) Thursday night. Thursday night's match is set for 8 p.m. at Clemson's Riggs Field.
The Pack's match against the Tigers will be broadcasted live on ACC Network. Live stats will also be available via StatBroadcast.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wolfpack suffered its most lopsided defeat of the season Sunday night against No. 5 Duke, falling 6-0 at Dail Soccer Stadium. The Blue Devils scored twice in the opening 10 minutes to set the tone before scoring four goals in the second half to secure the ACC victory. Twenty members of the Pack logged minutes in the setback.
SERIES HISTORY
Clemson leads the all-time series 19-7-14, winning the past six matchups in the series. The Pack's most recent win over the Tigers came back in 2011 when NC State posted a 2-1 home victory on Oct. 20, 2011. NC State's one-goal victory capped off a three-game winning streak, winning each game from 2009-11 by a goal apiece.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Clemson opened Atlantic Coast Conference play strong with a 2-0 home victory over then-No. 6 Notre Dame. The win extended the Tigers' winning streak to three matches and unbeaten run to four, shutting out three straight opponents following a 2-2 tie at then-No. 4 South Carolina. The Tigers suffered back-to-back ACC defeats this past week, falling to Wake Forest and Florida State on the road. Four Tigers tie for the team lead with three goals apiece.
COMEBACK PACK
The Comeback Pack. NC State rallied once again on Sept. 18 after going behind first, marking its second comeback win this season. The Wolfpack also has a flair for the dramatic, scoring in the final 15 minutes of games five times. NC State is undefeated (4-0-1) in games it nets a goal in the final 15 minutes.
SETTING THE TABLE
Since taking over the program after the 2012 season, head coach Tim Santoro has logged five or more regular-season nonconference wins six times in nine fall seasons. NC State's 3-1 win over High Point helped the 2022 team join squads from 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 to accomplish the feat.
OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
Captain Lulu Guttenberger has been anchoring the NC State backline for years, starting all 87 games throughout her Wolfpack career. Guttenberger needs to make just six more starts to set a new NC State record for career starts in an NC State uniform. She also needs to make just seven more appearances to set the NC State record for career appearances.
UP NEXT
NC State will continue its three-game road trip at Notre Dame on Thursday, Oct. 6. Next Thursday's kickoff in South Bend, Indiana, is slated for 8 p.m. and will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
