RALEIGH – The NC State women's soccer team dropped its ACC weekend finale 6-0 to No. 5 Duke Sunday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.
Duke scored twice in the opening 10 minutes to set the tone for the conference matchup. Michelle Cooper scored the opening goal on a blistering shot from outside the box in the sixth minute. The Blue Devils doubled their advantage just over two minutes later when Mackenzie Pluck's shot from inside the box snuck past a crowd of defenders into the net.
The Pack fired its best effort of the first half after earning a free kick right outside the 18-yard box. Lulu Guttenberger clipped in a ball to the far post for centerback partner Jenna Butler, who blistered her right-footed effort just wide of the right post.
Duke tallied four goals in the second half to secure the ACC victory. Cooper paced Duke with two goals and a pair of assists, while Pluck also secured a brace on the night.
Jameese Joseph and Butler each recorded a shot for the Wolfpack, while 20 members of the Pack logged minutes.
