Pack Dominates Adidas XC Challenge in Season Opener

CARY – The NC State men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2022 season in dominating fashion Friday evening with both teams claiming five of the top-six finishing positions in their respective races at the Adidas XC Challenge held at the WakeMed Soccer Park Cross Country Course in Cary.
The women dominated the field in their race, finishing with 17 points while the men took home second through sixth place in their race to finish with 20 points.
Women's 5K Recap
Sam Bush took home her first career collegiate individual title, running the course in 16:14.5. She was closely followed by Marlee Starliper (16:20.1) who was competing for the Pack's cross country team for the first time in her career.
Mariah Howlett was next for the Pack in third place (16:37.5) as NC State took home the first three finishing positions.
Savannah Shaw was next for the Pack in fifth (16:52.8) while Gionna Quarzo was sixth (16:59) to round out the Pack's scoring crew.
Brooke Rauber finished eighth (17:12.1), Shannon Sefton 11th (17:24.5) and Alyssa Hendrix closed in 12th (17:37.2)
Running unattached, Grace Hartman finished in seventh (17:06.5), Olivia Haas was 13th (17:43.4), Briley Bickerstaff was 16th (17:52.8).
Men's 5K Recap
Brett Gardner led the Pack group as he posted a second place finish in a time of 17:30.9.
Ian Harrison was next for NC State in third (17:36.9) while John Malach (17:49.0) edged David Vorbach for fifth (17:52.4). Jake Toomey was the final scoring member for the Pack in sixth place in a time of 18:02.5
Miles Ally finished in eighth place (18:05.5), Dan McGoey was 19th (18:28.2), Zach Hughes finished in 28th (18:51.5) and Wesley Larson finished in 43rd (19:10.5).
Running unattached, Jimmy Mullarkey finished in 36th (19:00.6) and Patrick Gibbons finished in 46th (19:15.9),
