Women’s Soccer Hosts Campbell Thursday Night

RALEIGH – The No. 21 NC State women's soccer team will open another week at Dail Soccer Stadium when in-state foe Campbell makes the short trip to Raleigh on Thursday. Kickoff for Thursday night's game is set for 7 p.m. and will stream live on ACC Network Extra.
LAST TIME OUT
Senior forward Jameese Joseph buried a game-winning goal in the 87th minute to lift NC State to a 2-1 victory over VCU on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Dail Soccer Stadium. Less than 10 minutes after VCU tied the match at 1-1, strike partners Alexis Strickland and Joseph combined to tally the game-winning goal and move NC State to 2-0. The Wolfpack recorded the opening goal in the 44th minute when Jaiden Thomas and Fernanda Soto assisted Annika Wohner right before the halftime break. NC State outshot VCU 13-10 in the home victory.
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday's matchup against Campbell will mark the 17th all-time meeting between the two programs. NC State has never lost to the Fighting Camels, holding a 14-0-2 record against its in-state foe. NC State faced Campbell twice in 2021, once in the spring and once in the fall. The Wolfpack won the first matchup 1-0 on Feb. 16, 2021, before splitting the points on the road in a 1-1 tie on Aug. 26, 2021.
SCOUTING THE FIGHTING CAMELS
Campbell opened its 2022 campaign 0-1-1, earning a home draw against Mercer before falling 5-1 at ACC opponent Clemson. The Fighting Camels finished the 2021 season 12-4-2, defeating USC Upstate 2-0 on Oct. 23 to clinch the Big South Regular Season Championship. First-year head coach Jeff Gross arrives at Campbell after serving as associate head coach at UNC Greensboro the past two seasons.

On Tuesday, TopDrawerSoccer ranked NC State No. 21 in its latest Top 25. The Wolfpack joins six other ACC schools in the top 25 – Virginia (No. 1), Florida State (No. 2), Duke (No. 3), North Carolina (No. 4), Clemson (No. 14) and Notre Dame (No. 15).

On Tuesday, TopDrawerSoccer named Jameese Joseph its National Player of the Week. She earned the honor after logging a goal and an assist over the opening weekend of play, burying a late game-winner Sunday to lift NC State to a 2-1 win over VCU.
WELCOME HOME TO RALEIGH, LEXI
Senior forward Alexis "Lexi" Strickland has been on fire since returning to Raleigh. The former UNC and Oklahoma forward made her first appearance in NC State's exhibition against Ohio State, scoring the opening goal in a 2-0 win. She then logged her first-career brace in an opening night win over Rhode Island. Lastly, Strickland made a beautiful turn at midfield before delivering an assist to Jameese Joseph for the game-winning goal over VCU on Sunday.
