Pack Picks Up All-ACC Honors on First Day of ACC Championships

DURHAM, N.C. - The NC State track & field teams began ACC Championships action on Thursday, seeing multiple athletes advance to their event finals and several others earn All-ACC accolades.
DISTANCE
All four women's 1500m prelims runners automatically qualified to Saturday's final as top-five finishers in their respective heats. Anna Vess led the way with a 4:17.34 that was the second-fastest overall time, and she was followed by Katelyn Tuohy's 4:20.65 that was the fifth-quickest overall.
Savannah Shaw posted a 4:22.41 in the event for the seventh-best overall mark, and Nevada Mareno rounded out the group with the ninth-fastest overall time of 4:22.84.
On the men's side, both Gavin Gaynor and Brett Gardner moved on to the final of the men's 1500m. Gaynor charted the third-fastest time overall with a 3:44.69, and Gardner recorded a 3:45.24 in the fourth-fastest overall mark in the event.
Hannah Steelman tabbed NC State's first podium finish of the meet with a stellar performance in the women's 10000m. Her time of 33:28.85 earned her a third-place finish alongside First Team All-ACC accolades.
Mariah Howlett and Dominique Clairmonte each garnered Second Team All-ACC honors in the women's 10000m, Howlett placing fourth with a 33:45.29 and Clairmonte finishing in sixth with a 34:24.23.
Heather Holt rounded out the 10000m group with a PR of her own, running a 34:53.43.
Ian Shanklin wrapped up the day of competition for NC State in the men's 10000m, placing fifth with a personal-best 28:56.37. His time ranks fifth in program history and earned him Second Team All-ACC honors.
Ian Harrison competed in the event as well, posting a 30:24.84 for a personal record.
MULTI-EVENTS
Timara Chapman posted an impressive first day in the women's heptathlon, getting on the podium in two of the four events that took place on Thursday. She finished the first day in third place with 3446 points.
She opened the meet with a personal-best 100m hurdles mark, running a 13.92 that improved her own seventh-best time in the NC State record book.
Chapman took second place in the shot put and 200m, both with personal records. Her shot put toss of 13.19m (43' 3.25") checked in as the eighth-best in program history.
The final event of the first day was the 200m, and Chapman crossed the finish line in 24.38 with the ninth-fastest program mark.
SPRINTS
Jada Griffin became the first member of the Pack to advance into an event final with an impressive performance in the women's 200m. She clocked a 23.39 for a PR and the fourth-fastest time in program history on her way to qualifying out of the prelims.
THROWS
Makala Wright improved her own sixth-best program hammer throw mark with a 52.06m (170' 9") toss.
