
#Pack9 Sweeps Friday Doubleheader Against Boston College

RALEIGH – NC State baseball (23-11, 10-7 ACC) picked up a pair of wins on Friday over Boston College (15-21, 3-15 ACC) at Doak Field at Dail Park to complete its series sweep over the Eagles.
The Wolfpack overcame a six-run deficit in game one to force extra innings and managed to earn its third-straight walk off victory of the week, 7-6 (11 inn.), in game one. In the nightcap the game was a back-and-forth battle, but one that NC State came out on top in with a 6-3 win.
This was the team's second ACC series sweep of the season and its third conference series win of the year.
Game One Recap
The Eagles struck in the second inning via an RBI groundout by Barry Walsh after Rafe Chaumette reached on an error and moved to third on an outfield single.
After three-and-a-half quiet innings for both teams, the Eagles plated five runs on two hits and three errors to jump out a 6-0 lead.
The Pack managed to erase its deficit and tie things up in the seventh with six runs on five hits. Josh Hood and J.T. Jarrett started the frame with outfield singles, and Payton Green drove in Hood with a double to right field to put the Pack on the board. Pinch hitter Chase Nixon's sac fly to left field brought Jarrett home for the second run, and then LuJames Groover's single to left field allowed Green to cross home plate and cut the deficit in half.
Tommy White's sac fly followed by an RBI single from Noah Soles and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch with Jarrett at the plate proceeded to bring the other three runs across and knot the score at 6-6.
NC State capped off its third walk-off win in the 11th inning on a Boston College miscue. Devonte Brown reached on an error and then Groover and White tallied base hits to load the bases with no outs. Brown looked to score the game-winning run on a fielder's choice with Soles at the plate, but catcher Parker Landwehr was able to apply the tag for the out. In the next at bat Hood reached on an error to bring Groover home.
It was the second game-winning run that Groover has scored this week, and he has been a part of all three walk off victories this year for the Wolfpack. Prior to this season he had never tallied a walk off hit or scored the game-winning run in a contest.
Groover extended his hit streak to 20 games and his reached base streak to 23 games with a 2-for-6 outing, while Green turned in a career-high 3-for-4 showing at the plate. Additionally, Soles continued his offensive hot streak with a 2-for-6 performance, giving him 19 hits in nine games. White also turned in a multi-hit outing going 2-for-5.
Chris Villaman tossed the final four innings of the game in shutout fashion, yielding just one hit and one walk while tallying nine strikeouts to improve to 3-2 on the mound this season. In each of his last eight appearances he has picked up a win or save.
Game Two Recap
For the third consecutive game the Eagles struck first, as Chaumette scored on Landwehr's sac fly to left field after he led off the game with a single up the middle and a pair of hit-by-pitches put him at third.
The Pack responded with a run in the bottom frame when Groover drew a one-out walk and scored on a wild pitch after a fielder's choice and error put him at third.
Boston College got back out front in the second when Sam McNulty's bunt single followed by a Wolfpack error with a runner in scoring position made it 2-1. The squad looked to extend its lead in the third when it loaded the bases on two outs, but a groundout to White at third ended the threat.
White delivered with a two-run single in the fourth, driving in Matt Oldham and Groover after they reached on base hits to give the Pack a 3-2 lead.
Boston College tied things up in the fifth on Walsh's solo shot to center field, but a sac fly to center field by Will Marcy with runners in scoring position gave NC State a 4-3 lead in the bottom frame.
In the sixth the Pack added insurance runs to extend its lead to 6-3 on a wild pitch and sac fly to center field after Groover drew a one-out walk and White hit his second double of the game to put runners in scoring position.
The Eagles attempted a late rally in the ninth, loading the bases up on a double and a pair of walks on one out, but a double play started by Hood ended the game.
White led the team's offense with a 2-for-5 showing with two doubles, while Groover extended his hit streak to 21 games and his reached base streak to 24 games with a base hit in the contest. Sole additionally tallied a hit to give him 20 hits in a 10-game span.
Canaan Silver went five innings in his second-straight start of the season to improve to 5-0 on the year, surrendering two earned runs on six hits while fanning a career-high seven batters. Logan Adams tossed the final four innings to collect his first save of the year and allowed just four batters to reach base.
NC State returns to action Wednesday when it faces High Point at Truist Point, home of the High Point Rockers. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with an audio stream on WKNC 88.1 and the Varsity Network App.
