With the win head coach Elliott Avent, the school's all-time winningest coach, captured his 950th win at NC State. Additionally, Tommy White broke the Wolfpack freshman home run record with his 14th of the season.
The Pack got off to a strong start, scoring two runs on four hits in the first. Devonte Brown led off the game with a triple to right field and scored on LuJames Groover III's base hit up the middle. Then, with runners at the corners, Josh Hood's sac fly to right field made it 2-0.
The Panthers got on the board in the third when Jackson Melton led off with a double, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sac fly to left field.
In the fourth, White belted his team-leading 14th home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field, to break the NC State freshman home run record and put the Pack up 4-1.
High Point answered in the bottom frame with four runs on as many hits to take a 5-4 lead. A bases-loaded walk followed by a two-run single by Melton and a Blake Sutton RBI single brought the four runs across.
The Panthers' lead was short-lived, as Brown knotted the score at 5-5 in the sixth with his seventh homer of the year, a solo shot to left. A bases-loaded sac fly from Hood followed by a wild pitch with runners in scoring position and an RBI groundout by Noah Soles completed the four-run burst to give NC State an 8-5 lead.
NC State extended its lead in the seventh with a pair of runs on two hits. Payton Green led off the inning with his second hit of the night, a single to left field, and scored from third on a wild pitch. Dominic Pilolli drove in the other run with his double to right center with runners at first and second to make it 10-5.
A bases-loaded walk with Hood at the plate followed by a sac fly from Soles and a wild pitch with Pilolli at third capped off the Pack's nine unanswered runs.
Carson Kelly picked up his second win of the year on the mound, allowing just one hit and one walk in 2.1 scoreless innings. Additionally, Logan Adams secured his second-straight save as he tossed the final three innings and allowed just one runner to reach base.
Brown led the Pack's offense with a career-high 4-for-6 outing, while White (3-for-4), Pilolli (3-for-4), Groover (2-for-4) Soles (2-for-5) and Green (2-for-5) all turned in multi-hit performances to contribute to the team's 16 hits in the contest.
Groover extended his hit streak to 22 games and his reached base streak to 25, while Soles is currently on an 11-game hit streak as he has tallied 22 in the span.
NC State will next travel to No. 11 Louisville for a three-game ACC series. The teams will play Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Jim Patterson Stadium. Friday's game will be broadcast on the ACC Network and the final two will be on ACCNX. Additionally, all three games will be aired on WKNC 88.1 and the Varsity Network App.
