Track & Field Posts PRs on First Day of Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH - The NC State track & field programs began competition at Raleigh Relays on Thursday, garnering one podium finish and several personal bests.
DISTANCE
Brett Gardner and Jake Toomey opened competition for the Pack on Thursday, each tabbing a PR in the 1500m. Gardner posted a 3:51.19 while Toomey ran a 3:52.10.
Ian Shanklin ran the fifth-fastest mark in the country with a 13:45.83, leading the Wolfpack men in the event. Five of NC State's six competitors in the event notched a personal best, led by Nate Kawalec's 13:53.74.
Gavin Gaynor tabbed a PR of 14:03.31 while Ian Harrison posted a 14:08.87 for a personal best. Kevin Antczak and Dan McGoey rounded out the group of personal-best marks with a 14:21.54 and a 14:38.49, respectively.
In the women's 10000m, Allie Hays ran the third-fastest time in the nation and earned a third-place finish in the event with a personal-best 33:15.53. Gionna Quarzo's time of 33:32.77 ranks sixth in the country.

Mikieja Covington recorded a personal-best mark in the women's shot put, tabbing a mark of 11.40m (37'5").
