RALEIGH – The eighth-ranked NC State women's tennis team (3-0) continued its perfect start to dual match play with Sunday victories over No. 10 Ohio State (4-3) and ETSU (6-1).
NC STATE 4, OHIO STATE 3
In its second ranked matchup in as many days, NC State got off to a strong start in the contest by securing the doubles point on the day with a pair of solid efforts.
The Wolfpack duo of Sara Nayar and Priska Nugroho captured the first win on court three, earning the break at 3-1 that led to an eventual 6-2 decision. Closely following, Jaeda Daniel and Nell Miller clinched the doubles point on court two with a 6-3 decision.
The Wolfpack extended the lead 2-0 behind Nell Miller and her 6-2, 6-1 solo effort over No. 72 Lucia Marzal. Along with extending her current win streak to five singles matches, the win was Miller's first over a ranked opponent this season and at NC State.
The Buckeyes added their first two points of the match with consecutive wins in singles play, both in three-set fashion. The Pack then reclaimed the lead behind an emphatic 6-1, 6-1 effort from Sophie Abrams over Kolie Allen.
Ohio State tied the match again with a victory in a near three-hour, top-ten contest that went down to the wire on court one.
All eyes were centered on the final matchup of the day between Wolfpack sophomore Amelia Rajecki and Shelly Bereznyak. Rajecki took early control of the contest in the first set. The Nottingham, England, native used a 5-2 break point and a game-sealing ace to propel her to a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 individual win and the Wolfpack to its 4-3 team win.
NC STATE 6, ETSU 1
After the thriller against the Buckeyes, the Wolfpack turned its attention to ETSU and mixed up its lineup a bit to get Nayar in on singles action. After winning the doubles point that came down to court two, NC State won five of six singles matches.
