
NC State Tripped Up By Colorado State

RALEIGH – NC State battled hard for the entire match but suffered a 3-1 (28-30, 25-18, 23-25, 23-25) setback to Colorado State on Saturday night inside of Reynolds Coliseum.
The Rams (1-2) took the nail-biting first set and the Pack (2-4) was able to regain momentum in the second but Colorado State outlasted the Wolfpack in the final two sets for the hard-fought victory.
Junior Taylor Rowland posted her third double-double of the season with 16 kills and a career-high 16 digs while graduate student Melissa Evans tallied her second double-double of the season with 13 kills on a .200 hitting percentage and 12 digs.
Junior Kristen McDaniel also recorded a double-double posting a match- and season-high 46 assists and a team-high 19 digs. Senior Jade Parchment rounded out the offensive threat with a match- and season-high 19 kills. Freshman Jada Allen led the defensive charge with six blocks including three solos.
Set One (NC State 28, Colorado State 30)
The first set was a battle from start to finish as there were six lead changes and 19 ties. At 22-all, Colorado State was able to capitalize off an error and secured a kill to take a 24-22 lead. Back-to-back Wolfpack kills allowed the set to go into a win-by-two scenario. The Rams NC State off back-to-back Pack errors. Both teams posted decent hitting percentages as NC State racked up a .208 percentage on 18 kills and Colorado State hit .204 with 15 kills.
Set Two (NC State 25, Colorado State 18)
After Colorado State took a quick 2-1 lead, NC State reeled off a solid 6-0 run to take a 7-2 lead that it would not relinquish. The Rams tried to battle back coming within two at 12-10 but could not overcome the early deficit. The Pack tallied 15 kills on a .237 hitting percentage while limiting Colorado State to only eight kills and seven errors for a .034 hitting clip.
Set Three (NC State 23, Colorado State 25)
The third set had similar energy as the first set with there being eight ties and three lead changes. NC State looked solid holding a 15-11 lead but the Rams fought back to tie the score at 16. Once again, the Pack started to itch away from Colorado State but the Rams kept close and eventually took the set off a service ace.
Set Four (NC State 23, Colorado State 25)
The Pack controlled all of the momentum early in the set, jumping out to an early 5-1 lead forcing Colorado State to call a timeout. After the quick break, the Rams regrouped and tied the score at 9-all. NC State went back ahead but the Rams did not let up, tying the game at 20 before being able to force a couple of Wolfpack errors to take the set and the match.
Up Next
NC State will head to Rutgers to compete in the Rutgers Tournament in Piscataway, N.J. on Sept. 10 and 11. At the tournament, the Pack will face Brown and Rutgers on Friday before closing out the trip with a Saturday contest against NJIT.
