RALEIGH – NC State began the match on fire but could not hold on and dropped its non-conference finale to Arkansas, 3-0 (21-25, 16-25, 18-25) in the ACC/SEC Challenge on Friday night inside of Reynolds Coliseum.
The Pack (6-5) fell out of its rhythm when the Razorbacks (9-2) called an early timeout in the first set to shake things up and NC State was unable to get back into its offensive power.
Junior Jade Parchment led the way for the Pack with 10 kills and seven digs while freshman Jada Allen hit a solid .500 with seven kills and three blocks. Freshman Maggie Jones tallied 20 assists and a season-high tying eight digs.
Defensively, graduate student Kaylee Frazier tallied 10 digs and sophomore Riley Shaak denied five attacks including four solo blocks.
Set One (NC State 21, Arkansas 25)
The Pack began the match nearly unstoppable as it jumped out to an early 8-1 lead which included an error for Arkansas' point. After calling a timeout, the Razorbacks went on a 13-2 run forcing NC State to use both of its timeouts. NC State battled with Arkansas, eventually tying the score at 19 but the Razorbacks held on for the set win.
Set Two (NC State 16, Arkansas 25)
Once again NC State started out hot but the Razorbacks found a way to battle back to keep NC State's momentum to a minimum. Arkansas was able to gain its first lead in the set at 13-12 which gave them just enough energy to hold off NC State to take the second set.
Set Three (NC State 18, Arkansas 25)
Arkansas controlled all the momentum in this set as it hit .419 with 20 kills in the set. NC State tried hanging on with the Razorbacks as the team recorded 14 kills but was unable to slow down Arkansas.
