
Women’s Soccer Opens ACC Play Saturday At Virginia Tech

RALEIGH – NC State women's soccer (4-2-2) is set to open Atlantic Coast Conference play this weekend when it makes the trip to Blacksburg, Va., to face Virginia Tech (6-2-0). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Thompson Field, and the match will be broadcast on ACCNX.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wolfpack traveled to Charlottesville, Va., for a pair of neutral site matches against Oklahoma and then-No. 11 Penn State last weekend.
NC State earned a 5-0 win over the Sooners on Sept. 9, marking the most goals scored in a single game since its 5-2 result at East Carolina on Sept. 18, 2019. It was additionally the team's third-straight shutout win, which was the first time since Oct. 14-22, 2017, that the squad posted three consecutive shutouts.
Four different players scored their first goals of the season, highlighted by Lulu Guttenberger's second career brace and Emika Kawagishi and Jaiden Thomas's first career tallies.
In the contest with the Nittany Lions on Sept. 12, the Pack went toe-to-toe with the Big Ten powerhouse, but Penn State escaped with a 1-0 win thanks to a goal with 46 seconds left in regulation. NC State held an 11-8 advantage in shots and didn't allow PSU to put a shot on frame until the final 10 minutes of the contest.

The teams last met on Oct. 13, 2019, in Raleigh, and battled to a 1-1 (OT) draw. Play was suspended in the 93rd minute due to inclement weather, and the match was not able to be completed.
The last time the teams met in Blacksburg was on Oct. 22, 2017, and Maxine Blackwood scored the golden goal in the 102nd minute to help NC State pick up a 1-0 (2OT) victory.
