LAST TIME OUT
The Wolfpack traveled to Fayetteville, Ark., to face top-ranked Arkansas in the NCAA Super Regional on June 11-13. After suffering a 21-2 loss in game one, the Pack bounced back in games two and three with 6-5 and 3-2 wins, respectively, to advance to its third College World Series and first since 2013.
NC State handed Arkansas its only series loss of the season, and became the first team in Super Regional history to advance to the College World Series after losing game one by 15 or more runs.
NC STATE IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
The 2021 season marks NC State's 32nd time playing in the NCAA Tournament, as it has earned a berth in 10 out of the last 11 years that the tournament has been held, including six straight years. Impressively, the Pack has participated in the tournament in 16 out of the last 18 years that it has been held.
This year marks the fifth time the Pack has advanced to a Super Regional and third time making a trip to the College World Series.
SERIES HISTORY VS. BRACKET ONE OPPONENTS
NC State and Stanford have met twice before this weekend, as the Cardinal have won both meetings. Both meetings between the teams were at the 2006 NCAA Austin Regional.
If NC State and Arizona meet in the tournament, it would be the fifth all-time meeting and the series is split at 2-2. The Pack and Wildcats have not played each other since 1993, and the last meeting was in Stillwater, Okla., for the NCAA Midwest Regional.
If NC State and Vanderbilt face off in Omaha, it would also be the fifth all-time meeting between the squads with the series evened at 2-2. The two teams last met in 2012 at the NCAA Raleigh Regional, and after suffering a 9-8 opening-round loss to the Commodores the Pack earned 6-5 and 9-7 victories to win the regional.
NO WAY, JOSE!
Jose Torres tallied three hits in the NCAA Super Regional last week in Arkansas, and all three were home runs.
His third homer of the series was in the winner-take-all game, and was the biggest hit of his Wolfpack career. He hit the game-winning run in the ninth inning off of SEC Pitcher of the Year and Golden Spikes Award semifinalist Kevin Kopps to send the Pack back to Omaha.
ROAD WARRIORS
NC State has continued to excel on the road, owning an impressive 19-4 record in true road games this season. Its win percentage (.863) in those games is the best among all NCAA teams.
Additionally, the Pack owns a 22-6 overall record away from Raleigh.
The squad started its road slate with a perfect 8-0 record and was one of the last three teams in the nation to remain perfect away from home.
ON DECK
NC State will face either Arizona or Vanderbilt Monday, June 21 at 2 or 7 p.m. ET for its second game in Omaha.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN, and there will additionally be a free audio stream on WKNC 88.1, 99.9 The Fan and the TuneIn App.
