SOUTH BEND, Ind. – NC State baseball (15-12, 8-11 ACC) narrowly dropped its series opener to seventh-ranked Notre Dame (17-5, 15-6 ACC), 3-2, on Friday evening at Frank Eck Stadium in South Bend, Ind., snapping its six-game win streak and blemishing its perfect road record.
The contest was a pitcher's duel with the teams combining for just 13 hits in the five total runs scored, and only one of those hits was for extra bases.
Devonte Brown's solid piece of hitting in the second inning put the Pack on the board first, as he drove in Jonny Butler and Terrell Tatum, who reached base on a single and walk, from second and third with a two-out double to center field.
Notre Dame answered in the fourth inning with Jack Brannigan's two-out single up the middle to knot the score at two.
The score remained knotted at two until the bottom of the eighth when the Irish managed to get the game-winning run across on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.
