#Pack9 Drops Rubber Match With Miami

RALEIGH – No. 24 NC State baseball (4-6, 1-5 ACC) dropped its rubber match with sixth-ranked Miami (5-4, 3-3 ACC), 6-4, on Sunday afternoon at Doak Field at Dail Park.
The first three innings were scoreless with only a combined six batters reaching base between then squads. Then, Jonny Butler's two-run home run in the fourth and Tyler McDonough's RBI double in the fifth gave the Wolfpack a 3-0 advantage.
Starting pitcher Matt Willadsen put together five strong shutout innings of baseball, yielding just four hits and tallying four strikeouts up to that point. In the sixth, the Hurricanes put up five runs thanks to back-to-back-to-back home runs from its two through four hitters and a bases-loaded walk.
NC State battled back in its half of the sixth when Jose Torres scored Devonte Brown on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly, but Miami's Yohandy Morales responded when led off the seventh with his second homer in as many at bats.
Cooper King retired six consecutive batters in the final two innings to give the Pack offense a chance to come back, but the squad could only get one batter to reach base in the final six outs of the contest.

- Austin Murr and Terrell Tatum led the team offensively with two hits apiece.
- McDonough extended his reached base streak to 27 games, which dates back to last season.
- Butler has reached base in 29 of his last 30 games, which dates back to the 2019 season.
