Wolfpack Falls Short In Game Two With Hurricanes
3/6/2021 6:20:00 PM | Baseball
RALEIGH – No. 24 NC State baseball (4-5, 1-4 ACC) fell short to No. 6 Miami (4-4, 2-3 ACC) on Saturday afternoon, 6-4, at Doak Field at Dail Park in game two of the weekend series.
The Wolfpack managed to level the score on two separate occasions after facing a two-run deficit, but could not overcome late runs in the eighth and ninth by the Hurricanes.
Miami plated two runs on as many hits in the first, but Tyler McDonough's two-run homer in the bottom frame evened the score. After three quiet innings, the Canes jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the fifth thanks to back-to-back doubles from Jordan Lala and Anthony Vilar.
McDonough drove in a run with his two-out single in the home half of the fifth to cut the Pack's deficit to one, then J.T. Jarrett's outfield single in the sixth plated a run to tie things back up.
An RBI groundout in the eighth and leadoff home run by CJ Kayfus in the ninth proved to be enough for the Canes to force a rubber match Sunday.
