Baseball Travels To UNCG Tuesday

RALEIGH – NC State baseball (8-9) will wrap up a five-game road swing Tuesday when it travels to UNCG for a midweek contest. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at UNCG Baseball Stadium in Greensboro, N.C.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and there will be a free audio stream on WKNC 88.1 and the TuneIn App.

SERIES HISTORY
Tuesday will mark the 38th meeting between the teams, as the Wolfpack leads 28-9 in the all-time series and has won four of the last five matchups between the squads. The teams last met on Feb. 23 in Raleigh, and the Spartans earned a 16-13 comeback win.
The contest in Raleigh was a scoring fest with a combined 29 runs and 32 hits between the Wolfpack and Spartans, featuring two ties and four lead changes.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State traveled to then-No. 11 North Carolina for its first road ACC series of the year and earned a series sweep. It was the second consecutive series win over the Tar Heels and first series sweep since April 15-17, 2011, which was played in Raleigh. Additionally, it was the first sweep for the Wolfpack in Chapel Hill since April 23-25, 1992.
The Wolfpack earned a 9-2 win on Friday, and despite the game being suspended on Saturday and finished on Monday, the squad defeated the Heels 6-1 in game two to clinch the series. An 8-3 win on Monday in the finale completed the sweep.
Dominant pitching was key for the Pack in the series, as it used just four pitchers the entire weekend. Reid Johnston tossed his second career complete game on Friday, while Sam Highfill threw a career-long 7.0 innings on Saturday. Additionally, Matt Willadsen hurled two shutout innings to close out game two and then threw a career-long 7.1 innings in game three on Monday.

The Spartans swept their Saturday doubleheader at VMI to take the series in its last time out. Prior to Saturday, the team was on a five-game losing streak.
Among the Southern Conference, UNCG ranks third in batting average (.277) and fourth in earned-run average (5.05). Corey Rosier ranks fifth in the league with a .368 clip and top three in hits (35), runs batted in (26) and runs scored (24).
UNCG was picked to finish third in the 2021 Southern Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, while Austin Koehn, Zack Budzik and Greg Hardison were named to this year's All-So-Con Preseason Second Team. The trio earned All-SoCon honors in 2019, while Budzik ranked fifth nationally in stolen bases (12-for-13) and Hardison ranked 15th in the NCAA with eight doubles in the 2020 season.
