
Volleyball Falls, 3-0, to #22 Georgia Tech

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The NC State Volleyball team fell in straight sets (20-25, 21-25, 22-25), to #22 Georgia Tech Saturday evening in Louisville, Ky. The loss snapped NC State's three-match win streak and moved the Wolfpack to 8-8 overall and 7-8 in the ACC.
The Wolfpack were led by Melissa Evans who notched the 15th double-double of her career with 17 kills and 10 digs. Evans also made history as she passed Dariyan Hopper for ninth on the all-time career kills list at NC State. Jade Parchment had another strong performance as she tallied 10 kills and seven digs for the match.
MATCH RECAP
The first set was tightly contested as neither team was able to gain a significant advantage. After a kill from Melissa Evans narrowed Georgia Tech's lead to 18-17, the Yellow Jackets went on a 7-3 run to take the 25-20 set victory. Although Georgia Tech won the set, NC State registered more kills and digs as a team than the Yellow Jackets with 17 and 9, respectively. Prior to dropping the first set, NC State had won eight consecutive sets dating back to the Wolfpack's March 14 matchup against Wake Forest.
Like the first set, the second set was a back-and-forth affair as the two teams traded points before Georgia Tech went on a 6-1 run to take a 15-11 lead. The Yellow Jackets held on to the four-point lead and won the set, 25-21. For the second consecutive set, NC State logged more kills (15) and digs (16) than Georgia Tech in a losing effort.
With its back against the wall, NC State came out firing on all cylinders in the third set, jumping out to a 19-14 lead behind five kills from Evans. Georgia Tech weathered the storm and put together five unanswered points, tying the set and eventually going on to win the set, 25-22. Once again, the Wolfpack tallied more kills (12) and digs (18) in the set than Georgia Tech in a losing effort. For the match, NC State registered 44 kills and 43 digs, compared to 38 kills and 36 digs for the Yellow Jackets.
