3/20/2021 6:42:00 PM | Baseball
RALEIGH – NC State baseball (4-8, 1-7 ACC) suffered a hard-fought loss to No. 7 Louisville (13-5, 6-2 ACC), 6-3, on Saturday afternoon at Doak Field at Dail Park.
Similar to game one of the weekend, the Cardinals scored a pair of runs early on and managed to hang on to its lead until the end.
Down 3-0 heading into the fourth inning, Terrell Tatum got the Wolfpack on the board with a solo shot to center field, then Jose Torres cut its deficit to one in the fifth with an RBI triple.
Louisville was able to regain its three-run lead back by plating runs in the sixth and seventh.
In the eighth, the Pack looked to make a comeback and was on the brink of flipping the script of the ball game. Torres got things going with a leadoff homer to left field, then a pair of hits and a walk loaded the bases up with no outs. With two outs in the frame Devonte Brown roped a 2-2 pitch to deep left field, but Louisville's Trey Leonard made the catch at the warning track to end the threat.
The Cards put up an insurance run in the ninth by way of Cameron Masterman's RBI double to left field to ultimately win the game and take the series.
