
@PackWrestle Advances Five to NCAA Quarterfinals

After first day of action, Pack sits fourth in the team race
ST. LOUIS, MO. – After the first day of action at the 2021 NCAA Championships, the NC State wrestling team advanced five members into tomorrow's quarterfinals round. In all, eight of the Pack's nine NCAA qualifiers are still alive after all of those eight won their opening round match in the double-elimination format.

After the opening day of action, NC State sits fourth in the team race with 21 points. Iowa leads with 33.5, Penn State is second with 28 and Missouri is third with 23.5. In the race for the team trophy, Oklahoma State is fifth behind the Pack with 20 points and Arizona State is sixth with 19.5.

Camacho started the evening session off like the earlier session, with the Pack's first win. Camacho scored takedowns in the first and second period and survived a wild sequence in the third that featured a pair of reversals to score a 10-8 decision over Michigan's Ragusin.

In the first of two straight ACC battles, Trombley came up short against Pitt's Phillippi, 6-1. After a scoreless first, Phillippi got a decisive two-point near fall in the second and add a late takedown for the final points to go with ride time.

Tariq Wilson won his bout vs. an ACC rival, as he scored a 7-3 decision (with 2:09 of RT) over Courtney of UVA. Wilson got a takedown in the first and second periods to build up the lead.

Hayden Hidlay closed the first half of the opening night session with his second bonus point win of the day, 20-3 over DeVos. Hidlay put up eight points in the first, two takedowns and a four-point near fall, and a second four-point near fall in the third ended it.
 Thomas Bullard fell to top seed Marinelli of Iowa 13-2. Marinelli scored a pair of takedowns and a four-point near fall in the first period to build up the lead.

Daniel Bullard punched his ticket into the quarterfinals with a 6-4 win over Washington. Bullard got a takedown in the first and with an escape and pair of stalls, held a 4-0 lead into the third. Washington went upper body for a two-and-two, but and escape and ride time point gave Bullard the close win.

Trent Hilday picked up his second technical fall win of the day to advance, 20-5 (with 3:26 of RT) over Clothier. Hidlay scored a pair of takedowns in the first period, then second was followed by a four-point near fall to score eight in the opening period.
 Deonte Wilson suffered his first loss of the season, and fell into the consolation bracket, falling 7-2.
