Gymnastics to Travel to Chapel Hill for EAGL Showdown

RALEIGH - The NC State gymnastics team is set for its next meet of the season Friday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. at East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) opponent North Carolina. The meet marks the second consecutive competition in which the Wolfpack has taken on the Tar Heels.

NC State tabbed a season-high 196.025 in its quad meet with Pittsburgh, Towson and North Carolina. The squad earned season-high scores on vault, bars and floor and claimed individual titles on the same three events. NC State's 49.400 on floor tied the sixth-best floor mark in program history.
Sophomore Chloe Negrete's performances at the meet were good to earn her EAGL Gymnast of the Week honors on Feb 9. Negrete posted a career-best 9.925 on floor that earned her the individual title. The sophomore additionally was part of a tie for third place on vault (9.800) and posted a 9.800 on beam.Â
Freshman Carina Jordan earned her second EAGL Rookie of the Week honors of the 2021 season on Feb. 9 after a pair of career bests at the meet. She tied her career-high vault with a 9.750 before going on to tab a 9.850 on bars and a 9.825 on floor that were each a career best. Her bars mark earned her a share of the individual title, the first of her career.
On floor, all six NC State routines earned career-best scores. Jordan and Katie Cox each posted a 9.825 while Kasey Nelson and Nicole Webb both tabbed a 9.875. Emily Shepard recorded a 9.900, the first 9.9 mark of her career on the apparatus. Negrete rounded out the career-bests with her 9.925.Â
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
In its second meet of the season, a quad meet at NC State with Pittsburgh and Towson, North Carolina tabbed a season-high score of 195.600 and finished second of the four teams.
Tar Heels tied for individual titles on vault and bars, and sophomore Elizabeth Culton earned the beam individual title after posting a 9.950 for the second straight week. Â
