TEMPE, Ariz. – NC State women's tennis' Jaeda Daniel, Alana Smith and Abigail Rencheli were all ranked in the national top 25 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Singles Rankings, as the organization released its latest set of standings for the 2021-22 season following the conclusion of fall play.
Daniel led the way with a personal-best ranking of No. 8, Smith checked in at No. 24 and Rencheli also earned the highest ranking of her career at No. 25. NC State is one of just six programs to have multiple players in the national top 25 in singles, and the Wolfpack's three players rank just behind local rival North Carolina, which had four top-25 players.
Daniel and Smith were also ranked in doubles as they were tabbed the nation's No. 21 duo.
The national rankings come after a busy fall during which the Wolfpack matched up against some of the nation's best at the Wahoowa Invitational, the Wolfpack Ranked Spotlight, the ITA All-American Championships and the ITA Carolina Regional.
Daniel reached the best ranking of her collegiate career after solid fall singles play that was highlighted by a run to the final of her bracket at the ITA Carolina Regional. On her march to the title match, she defeated three opponents in straight sets and beat No. 28 Chloe Beck (Duke) for the highest ranked win of her NC State career.
Rencheli also put together an impressive fall, reaching the consolation final in that same tournament and tallying four ranked wins. Smith's fall was highlighted by a solid week at the ITA All-American Championships. The Wolfpack senior earned her way into the main draw after going unbeaten in qualifying action and defeated No. 11 Viktoriya Kanapatskaya in the first round of main draw play.
Daniel and Smith won the doubles title at the Wolfpack Fall Ranked Spotlight and also reached the semifinal at the ITA All-American Championships.
NC State turns its attention to the 2022 dual match season, which will begin in January.
