RALEIGH, N.C. – Finally, the Wolfpack has returned home!
Â
After a bye week and back-to-back ACC road contests, NC State will return to Carter-Finley Stadium for the first time in 47 days and host ACC rival Louisville Saturday night.
Â
The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m., and will be televised on the ACC Network.
Â
""I look forward to being home," said head coach Dave Doeren. "It's been a while with the State Fair and the bye week. A month since we've been able to play a home game.
Â
"Last time we were here we had a great crowd. This is homecoming, so we need a great crowd again."
Â
The Wolfpack will be looking to use its strong home-field advantage to get back into the win column after dropping its last contest, 31-30 at Miami.
Â
NC State has won its last seven games at home, including all four contests at Carter-
Finley Stadium this season. The streak dates back to last season and ties for the longest home winning streak since nine straight between 1993 and 1994.
Â
The Pack has outscored its foes 151-55 (37.8-13.8) at home this season, sporting a perfect 4-0 mark.
Â
"We control our own destiny," said Doeren. "I know a lot of fans were disappointed, upset, whatever you may say about the loss we just had, and so were we, more than you. But we still have it all in front us, and we got to win one game at a time to make that a reality, and that starts with Louisville here at home."
Â
In the 'something has to give' category, Louisville comes in ranked fourth in the ACC in rushing offense averaging 201.0 yards per game (331 last time out vs. Boston College). QB Malik Cunningham leads the nation with 13 rushing TDs.
Â
The Pack's defense leads the ACC and ranks 11th nationally allowing just 93.1 yards on the ground per game. NC State is one of only two teams nationally (#1 Georgia), to have allowed just one rushing score – a mark that leads the nation.
Â
"I think their quarterback is an outstanding player," said Doeren. "He's not just an athlete, he's a really good quarterback. He's operating the offense. You can tell he's played a ton of football for them and managing the game."
Â
Even though Louisville holds a 7-3 overall lead in the series, NC state has won two of the last three meetings. The Pack won against #17 Cardinals in Raleigh in 2017 and in 2018 at Louisville. The Pack dropped the 2019 contest in Carter-Finley Stadium, and the Atlantic Division foes did not meet last season.
Â
"We are on to a very impressive football team," said Doeren. "Louisville had a 28-14 win (vs. Boston College) and overcame four turnovers on offense, and still won by a two-score margin.
Â
"A great opportunity to play a very physical, good football team here (Carter-Finley Stadium)."
