RALEIGH – Despite a late goal, NC State women's soccer (4-6-2, 0-4-0 ACC) was unable to overcome a two-goal deficit as it fell to No. 20 Notre Dame (10-1-1, 4-0-0 ACC), 2-1, on Friday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.
This was the Wolfpack's fifth consecutive contest against a team that is ranked or receiving votes for the national polls, and all of its losses this year have been by a one-goal margin.
The Fighting Irish got on the board in the first minute of the contest thanks to Korbin Albert's unassisted goal following a corner kick, then doubled its lead in the 57th minute with a Katie Coyle finish from 20 yards out.
In the final minute, Jenna Butler headed in her fourth goal of the season off a cross from Fernanda Soto. All four of her goals this season have been headers off of set pieces, and she is tied for the lead amongst the team in scoring. Additionally, that marked Soto's second assist of the year.
NC State will return to action Thursday, October 7 when it makes the short trip to Durham for its matchup with Duke. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium, and the match will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
