RALEIGH – NC State women's soccer (4-6-2, 0-4-0 ACC) will make the short trip to Durham, N.C., Thursday when it meets with Tobacco Road rival No. 4 Duke (8-1-1, 2-1-1 ACC) at Koskinen Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., and the match will be broadcast on the ACC Network with Alex Perlman and Lori Lindsey on the call.
This will be the Wolfpack's sixth consecutive match against a team that is ranked or receiving votes for the national polls, as well as its seventh matchup this season against a top 20 opponent.
LAST TIME OUT
Despite a late goal, NC State was unable to overcome a two-goal deficit as it fell to No. 20 Notre Dame, 2-1, on October 1 at Dail Soccer Stadium.
The Fighting Irish got on the board in the first minute of the contest thanks to Korbin Albert's unassisted goal following a corner kick, then doubled its lead in the 57th minute with a Katie Coyle finish from 20 yards out.
In the final minute, Jenna Butler headed in her fourth goal of the season off a cross from Fernanda Soto, which was her second assist of the season.
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday will be the 38th all-time meeting between the Wolfpack and Blue Devils, as Duke owns a 24-10-3 lead in the series.
The team last met on April 2 of this year in Raleigh, and Duke earned a 1-0 win. The last time the squads met in Durham, they battled to a 1-1 (2OT) draw on September 22, 2019.
HEADED IN BY BUTLER
Jenna Butler has tallied four goals this season to lead the team in scoring and points, and all of them have been header goals off set pieces.
Her first of the season was the equalizer at then-No. 9 Georgetown, while two others have been game winners.
ABOUT THE BLUE DEVILS
Duke currently sits in seventh place among the ACC standings with seven points, as it is coming off a 2-0 victory over Syracuse in its last time out.
The Blue Devils advanced to the title game in the 2020 ACC Tournament and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. They were picked to finish fourth in the preseason coaches' poll while Delaney Graham earned a spot on the Preseason All-ACC Team.
