Pack wins six matches, four by bonus points
RALEIGH, N.C. – The #4 NC State Wrestling team scored a 24-12 win over visiting App State in its first home dual of the season Friday night in Reynolds Coliseum.
The Wolfpack (2-0) won four of the first five matches to jump out to a 14-3 lead, and had four bonus point wins on the night overall including a pin at 197 pounds and major decision at heavyweight to close out the dual.
The dual started at 125 pounds, and NC State took the first three matches for a 10-0 lead.
#7 R-So. Jakob Camacho scored all four takedowns of the bout and added the ride time point for an 11-4 win at 125 pounds.
Classmate #16 Jarrett Trombley followed with a 4-2 win, a takedown in the first was the lone of the bout at 133 pounds.
#10 R-Sr. Tariq scored the first bonus point win for the Pack, as his eight-point first period led him to a 14-1 major decision at 141 pounds.
App State picked up its win of the dual at 149 pounds, as #10 Jonathan Millner got a takedown in the third period to score a 5-3 win over Fr. Ed Scott.
#2 R-Sr. Hayden Hidlay made it another bonus point win for the Pack, scoring a 14-3 major decision at 157 pounds.
The Pack was up 14-3 at the intermission, winning four of the first five matches.
The Mountaineers then ran off three straight decisions to get the bout to 14-12 with two matches left.
R-Sr. Nick Reenan clinched the dual for the Pack, as he scored a first period pin at 197 pounds. He got a takedown and a couple of four-point near falls before securing the pin at the 2:16 mark.
NC State closed out the dual with a win at heavyweight, as Deonte Wilson used a dominate third period to score the 11-2 major decision.
Up Next: The Pack will open its ACC slate next weekend, traveling up to Virginia for a Friday night dual.
