@PackWrestle vs. Pitt
Since Pitt joined the ACC for the 2014 season, NC State holds a 5-2 lead in the series. The two teams have split each of the last two seasons, each winning on the road.
Â
Last season, the Pack won at Pitt 21-12 in a battle of top-10 teams (NC State #4, Pitt #10). NC State won six of the 10 bouts, including five of the final six, and added a pair of bonus point wins while not conceding any.
Â
Nation's Longest Dual Winning Streak
NC State has started the 2021 season 3-0, this coming off of the first-ever undefeated dual season in school history last year (15-0). Dating back to the 2019 season, the Pack has won 20 straight duals, the longest winning streak in the NCAA (Iowa-14).
Â
Pitt was the last team to defeat the Wolfpack, an 18-16 win in 2019 in Reynolds.
Â
More Double Digit Winning Streaks
A pair of 2020 ACC Champions for the Pack currently hold double digit winning streaks dating back to last season.
Â
Hayden Hidlay has won each of his last 20 matches, and 32 of his last 33 matches overall at 157 pounds. Jakob Camacho has won 10 straight at 125 pounds. It has been over one year since either has taken a collegiate loss - Camacho's was Jan. 24 2020, and Hidlay's was Dec. 7, 2019.
Â
Top-Four National Ranking, 77 Straight Polls in the Top-10
In each of the first five NWCA Coaches Polls to start this season, NC State has been ranked #4 nationally each week.
Â
NC State has been ranked in the top-10 in the Coaches Poll for 77 straight polls dating back over six seasons, after having not been ranked in the top-10 at all since 1993. The Pack has also been ranked in the top-5 in 11 straight polls dating back to last January.
Â
Vying for Fourth Straight ACC Regular Season Title
In 2021, NC State will be looking to capture its fourth straight ACC Dual Championship. Over the last four seasons, NC State has gone 15-1 in ACC duals, winning the regular season title each of the last three years.
NC State has won three straight ACC regular season titles three times in school history (2018-20, 2000-02, 1981-83), but has never won four in a row.
Â
Eight Ranked, Five in Top-10
In this week's rankings from InterMat, NC State has eight of its 10 starters ranked among the top-20, including three in the top-5.
Â
Four of the five starters from the 2016 #1 recruiting class are ranked: Tariq Wilson (#11 at 141), Hayden Hidlay (#2 at 157), Thomas Bullard (#17 at 165), and Daniel Bullard (#12 at 174).
Â
The Pack's 2018 recruiting class was ranked #3 nationally, and four members from that signing class are also ranked: Jakob Camacho (#5 at 125), Jarrett Trombley (#16 at 133), Trent Hidlay (#4 at 184) and Deonte Wilson (#18 at 285).
Â
New to the Party
Despite all 10 starters returning from last season's ACC Championship squad, a Wolfpack freshman has made some waves in the lineup and is ranked in a trio of national rankings.
Â
Ed Scott has taken over as the starter at 149 pounds. He is 3-1 on the season, his lone loss to #10 Millner of App State 5-3, and last time out he scored a 13-1 major over Spencer of UVA. Scott was a two-time PA state champion and was the overall #19 recruit coming out of high school by FloWrestling.
