The Pack Earned the Program's Highest Ranked Victory
CHICAGO, Ill. – The No. 8 NC State women's tennis team upset No. 3 Georgia on Sunday, 4-1, in its final match at the ITA Indoor National Championship. The squad's win marks the program's highest-ranked victory, eclipsing the 2020 team's previous victory over No. 9 South Carolina.
The Pack moves to 11-2 on the season, and the Bulldogs drop to 5-2. The match was NC State's first-ever win over Georgia.
In the top-ranked duo's third ranked matchup of the weekend, Anna Rogers and Alana Smith swiftly defeated No. 42 Anna Hertel and Katarina Jokic on court one, 6-2, bringing its ranked wins total to nine on the season. Court three brought about another 6-2 decision in favor of the Bulldogs. Megan Coppoc and Meg Kowalski captured the win over Lexi Keberle and Liz Norman.
Court two would decide the doubles point. No. 14 Jaeda Daniel and Adriana Reami proved clutch as the doubles tandem captured a 6-4 victory to give the squad a 1-0 advantage over Georgia heading into singles.
The Bulldogs struck first in singles with a win on court six. No. 83 Coppoc defated Norman 6-0, 6-2 to even the match, 1-1. Keberle countered that win with a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Hertel on court four.
No. 30 Reami extended the NC State lead with a court three win over No. 90 Gonzalez. The victory marked her eighth ranked singles win of the season.
No. 20 Smith closed the deal for the Pack with a straight-set decision against No. 41 Jokic. The win marked her team-leading ninth ranked singles win of the season.
Over the course of the weekend, NC State tallied a 2-1 record with wins over No. 17 Princeton and No. 3 Georgia. The only loss came against No. 2 UNC on Saturday.
