
Shipp Posts Third-Straight Top-10 Finish; Pack Closes in 6th at Sea Best Invitational

Benjamin Shipp finished with a three-round scorecard of two-under par

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLA. – Senior Benjamin Shipp finished in a tie for eighth place on the individual leaderboard as he led the NC State men's golf team to a sixth place finish the Sea Best Invitational played on Dye's Valley at TPC Sawgrass.
Shipp had a consistent scorecard as he shot an even-par 70 in the first round and the consecutive rounds of one-under par 69 to finish the tournament at two-under par.
The Duluth, Ga., native has now played 11 consecutive rounds at even-par or better.
Easton Paxton delivered his best tournament of the 2019-20 season, finishing in a tie for 22nd place at two-over par. Like Shipp, Paxton was consistent as he posted consecutive rounds of even-par 70 in the second and third rounds.
Christian Salzer was next for the Pack in a tie for 32nd place. Salzer was one-under par through two rounds, but shot a 75 on Tuesday. The five-over par 75 snapped a steak of 12 consecutive rounds of even-par or better for the Sumter, S.C., native.
Max Steinlechner showed improvement every round in coming home in a tie for 52nd place. The freshman shot a 77 in the first round, but took four shots off his total in the next round with a 73. On Tuesday, he shaved another four shots off as he shot a one-under par 69.
Thomas Deal rounded out the NC State lineup in a tie for 68th place. Like Steinlechner, Deal improved every round, closing the tournament with a three-over par 73.
Brett McLamb, competing as an individual, finished in a tie for 55th place. McLamb shot an even-par 70 in the final round on Tuesday.
Texas A&M won the event with a three-round score of 13-under par. Florida finished in second two shots back of the Aggies while Liberty finished in third place.
The Pack returns to action Sunday, Feb. 16 when it begins play at the Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Purdue University in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
