Men’s Golf Closes NB3 Matchplay in Second Place

SANTA ANA PUEBLO, N.M. – The NC State men's golf team finished with 7.5 points over three days of match play to finish in second place out of four teams at the NB3 Matchplay at the Twin Warriors Golf Course this week.
NC State won its first two matches, defeating Houston, 3.5-1.5, and New Mexico, 3-2, before falling to New Mexico Wednesday afternoon.
The Aggies 4-1 win over the Pack propelled New Mexico State to first place with 9.5 points while NC State finished second, New Mexico in third and Houston in fourth.

The Pack jumped out to an early lead courtesy of Xander Goboy who won three of the first four holes of his match and never let up to close victory on the 13th hole. John Logan and Rylan Shim each added 2&1 wins over their opponents while Hunter Stetson registered a tie in his match to give the Pack a win over Houston from the Big 12.

In a match that spanned two days, it was Xander Goboy who gave the Pack its first point of the match. After six holes, Goboy was tied with his opponent, but he won four of the next eight holes to close his match with a 4&3 win. For the second consecutive match both Rylan Shim and John Logan recorded 2&1 wins to help the Pack knock off host New Mexico, 3-2.

In a match play that was closer than the final score would indicate - three of the five matches went a full 18 holes and the other two went 17 – it was New Mexico State who came out on top with a 4-1 win. NC State's only points came from Pearce Lewin and Hunter Stetson who both tied in their matches.
